New York City is known for being a concrete jungle but little do people know it’s a city that inhabits 13 of Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurants across the land. JGV restaurants are known for the number of stars he’s received over the years, but it’s no secret his restaurants are always best for special occasions rather than an everyday meal if you want to please your pocket. Though if you want to find a restaurant of JGV’s that’s friendly for a friends night out and also tasteful for the tastebud, ABC Kitchen is the place to go.
ABC Kitchen is filled with tons of tasty treats that aren’t necessarily filling but are always a mouthful of goodness with every bite you take. It’s definitely has a less formal vibe of all his restaurants aside from Mercer Kitchen while decorated with sleek white chairs, some modern-day designed tables, and dim lighting. Though aside from it’s decor, what really brought me to their restaurant which I know sounds crazy but my obsession for caramel is insane so I had to go to ABC for their salted caramel sundae. But before we get to the main event, here are a few dishes I tried from two separate trips cause let’s not kid anyone, I take my obsession for caramel very seriously.
The crab toast was delicious though at the time in the winter especially not having had breakfast, it’s definitely not my go-to pick considering it’s a dish served cold. The whole wheat mushroom pizza was delicious but a lot more filling than I anticipated though nevertheless I never expected a whole wheat pizza to taste this good. And of course, to wrap up the meal, my favorite salted caramel sundae was just sweet and stunning. Though as much as I would’ve wanted to have it all for myself, after devouring slices of whole wheat pizza with a raw egg on top, it definitely takes a minute or two to reconsider whether or not it’s worth sitting for an extra two hours just for a sundae.
Never could expect anything less from JGV despite one situation that I won’t get into because at the end of the day it was resolved, but he always delivers what he’s known for. His food is always up to his quality standard he stands by and service is always set and delivered at the standard level. His menu is definitely geared towards more daring diners, not saying that hake or fennel sausage is not served everywhere but there are certain plates that may not be made for all palates like his chicken liver toast or serving raw egg on a mushroom pizza. Though nevertheless, they always say you’ll always feel your best outside of your comfort zone and if you’re like me who definitely takes caramel and sundaes very seriously, this is a must visit if you are ever in New York City.
