It’s about damn time that I’ve made my way to Cha Cha Matcha in Nolita. In case your Instagram hasn’t been completely flooded with Cha Cha Matcha images for the past few months or if you haven’t heard the name from your fellow hipster/foodie friends, Cha Cha Matcha is a cafe that serves “Japanese Ceremonial Matcha” items like drinks, pastries, and soft serve.
It’s actually pretty amazing behind the backstory with how Cha Cha Matcha came to life. Long story short: it began with two college students who graduated from NYU in 2015 then traveled to Uji, Japan, where they found inspiration to create Cha Cha Matcha. As amazed as I am for their entrepreneurial skills and having such an established business almost two years post graduation, it also makes me wonder what I have been doing wrong post grad with where I am at presently with achieving my goals. But let’s save that topic for another day.
So here’s a glimpse inside of Cha Cha Matcha:
Since it was my first time at Cha Cha Matcha, I asked the barista his preference between Ginger Tumeric vs. Matcha Lemonade. Despite being told Ginger Tumeric is a better choice, without a hassle I agreed only to find out it was slightly a bad choice for my already sore throat.
Fresh Ginger, Tumeric, Mint & Matcha
After drinking my Ginger Tumeric from Cha Cha Matcha, I can see what all the hype is about despite the fact that I had a sore throat so I couldn’t necessarily thoroughly enjoy my drink as much as I could. Also which reminds me, I hope anyone who reads this learns from me that if you have a sore throat DO NOT DRINK Ginger Tumeric or else your throat is gonna BURN. Aside from my sore throat, I can say that their cold drinks are very refreshing and don’t have any artificial tasting ingredients within their drink like other matcha cafes. If you’re skeptical but are also new to the Matcha trend, I’d definitely give them a shot because even if you’re not a fan, at least you get a great Instagram pic. Win-win.
