Ever since Golden Bull closed, it has been a hard long journey to find the next best Pho in Hong Kong Island. Though on a lazy Monday morning, I stumbled upon Minh & Kok on Fashion Walk also known as Food Street.
Minh & Kok, as they describe themselves on their site as a “noodle joint,” combines both Thai and Vietnamese cuisines to form their well decadent menu. And if you have never had Vietnamese nor Thai food, it’s a great place to start especially during lunch hour. During lunch time they have a lunch set menu available, where you will be able to try a little bit of everything that’s worth every penny.
Since it was my first time dining at Minh & Kok for lunch, it was a good idea to try some dishes off their set menu:
Fresh Lime Soda
Bun Vermicelli with Spicy Minced Beef
Basil, Chili, Bean Sprout, Peanut, Crispy Garlic & Lime
Pho Noodle Soup
Pho Noodle soup with rare and well-done beef
Minh & Kok Platter
Viet Spring Roll, Steamed Minced Pork Rice Parcel, Chicken Skewer, Crisp Crab Claw, Papaya Salad, Mango and Beetroot Summer Roll
After indulging in a decadent Pho/Vietnamese Fusion lunch, I give Minh & Kok a 3 ½ stars. Although Minh & Kok can temporarily fill the void I have been trying to fill over the years for the perfect traditional bowl of pho, Minh & Kok takes too much of a modern and fusion twist in their dishes that strays too much from tradition. Sometimes a girl
just wants a simple traditional hot bowl of pho that’s close to reach without having
to be drenched in sweat on her voyage to good food. Is that too much to
ask? But for now, this will do.
