The poké trend has taken New York City by storm. There’s no way to score poké at a reasonable lunch hour than having to face a line that leads to the scorching heat outside.
Fortunately during the duration of my internship, I was located right near Pokéworks, which is right on 37th Street between 5th and 6th avenue so I was able to hop on the hype trend bandwagon but was only able to score Pokéworks at 3pm to avoid long lines.
Once you’re inside, you’ll notice their menu that allows you to choose one of three different bases: Poké Bowl, Pokiritto, and Poké Salad. Once you have picked your base, you get to choose protein, mix-ins, flavor, toppings and crunch. If you’re as indecisive as I am, Pokeworks has compiled 8 signature works for you if you have no idea what to mix with what. And if you’re hungry for their menu items, here’s the full rundown.
Since it was my first time and to avoid having to make the tough decisions of deciding what mixes and proteins go with what, I decided to try one of their signature works Umami Classic:
Ahi tuna, green & sweet onion, cucumber, hijiki seaweed, umami shoyu, roasted sesame oil
I think Pokéworks lives up to the hype and definitely something worth trying and going to again in the future. The only downside with Pokeworks is that the entire process from placing my order to paying at the register was too chaotic and manic for me to have to deal with after being in an office setting for 5 hours. And to sum up the manic: it was basically having to deal with four different people asking you what your order was from start to finish. Let’s invest in some paper shall we?
One Liner – The hype is real and so is that line.
